Sydney, Australia, 20 July 2015 – One of Australia’s largest stair climbing races has been selected as an Official Race on the 2015 Vertical World Circuit (VWC), the world’s premier skyscraper racing circuit, uniting some of the world’s most iconic skyscraper races, including the Empire State Building Run-Up in New York City.

The Sydney Tower Stair Challenge will replace the Corrida Vertical in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

On August 23, participants will begin their challenge on the street level at the Sydney Tower Eye, the city’s tallest tower, and once the race begins, ascend a total of 309 meters to the observation deck. Participants who manage to complete the 1,504-step climb will be rewarded with a stunning view of Sydney’s skyline.

The event has helped to raise important funds for charity, adding to the A$244,000 raised in the last 2 years.

“Our agreement with the International Skyrunning Federation and Sporting Republic is a significant landmark in the development of the Sydney Tower Stair Challenge,” Steve Corrie, Active8Change race organiser, said.

“The Vertical World Circuit is the pinnacle of stair racing and expectations within the series and of its fans worldwide are for a truly world class event in these iconic towers. We look forward to meeting those expectations when we welcome the VWC to our event.”

Lauri van Houten, ISF Executive Director commented: “We are excited to be working closely with Active8Change. The commitment to ISF is a catalyst to a wide range of exciting projects aimed at the promotion and governance of the sport of vertical running across the world.”

Eight races stretch across the globe in the Vertical World Circuit – from New York City, to the heart of Europe in London and Paris and on to Asia in Beijing and Shanghai, concluding in Hong Kong in December where the world champions will be crowned.
